About The Author

Marilyn Martin, M.D., MPH is a public health physician with a practice of psychiatry and psychoanalysis. Currently she serves as Medical Director of Maryland Health Partners. In that capacity she consults with the State of Maryland on the management of its mental health budget. 

Dr. Martin completed her specialty training in psychiatry at the University of Maryland while obtaining a Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. 

She has served in various administrative and clinical roles including Medical Director of the Baltimore County Bureau of Mental Health, and psychiatric consultant to Costar-Johns Hopkins’ Mobile Treatment Team and Bethel A.M.E. church in Baltimore, Maryland. 

At this time, she is completing Advanced Training in Psychoanalysis with the Baltimore-Washington Institute of Psychoanalysis in Laurel, Maryland. 

Spirituality and its interplay with mental health has long been an interest to her and she has presented to a wide range of audiences, including seminary students, the faith community and mental health care providers. Her career interest also includes mental health education of the community at large and the area of cultural competency. She is a member of the National Association of Black Storytellers. 

Dr. Martin is co-author with Dr. Rodrigo Munoz of Fuego Y Hielo Entre Las Latinas. It addresses mental health concerns in Latina women.
